Quick Bushwick Gallery Crawl

Luhring Augustine - Atlas, Kahrs, Mucha, Whiteread

Finally made it to Luhring Augustine's satellite space (to it's Chelsea location) and was incredibly impressed with the space and also it's unusual whimsical programming done there. The warehouse is predominantly houses artwork, but they have carved out a portion for exhibitions, dedicated to slightly off the radar artists. The shows are generally up for a few months, enough time to make a trip out there. Nearby are 2 also must see Bushwick spaces below.

Interstate Projects - Johannes DeYoung & Natalie Westbrook

Fell in love with this space and also owner Tom Weinrich. The 2-person show up now shows a collaboration between 2 artists, also a couple, with disparate strengths in painting and video. The pairing is unique and unusual, but surprising, fresh and incredibly compelling. 2 videos and unique collage pieces are shown. His program is strong, and this space will definitely be in heavy rotation for our local wanderings. The front yard is unlike any NY white box space, and worth a trip, or two. Interstate will be at the upcoming NADA Art Fair next week.

Also a satellite space to it's Brussels location, they bring their strong programming to Bushwick. Current show is a delicate installation of bleached fabric planks and a mattress installation with an ink  fountain at its center.  Our current fascination with what "home" means and the memories we carry drew us closer to this work, especially the fading of fabric with bleach.
