Our days are shortening by minute finding ourselves in pitch blackness dependent on our only source of available light.

Storm Chasing

First Edouard, now Ike. You would think we were storm chasing but we assure you the randomness of this journey just leads us straight through hurricane season. Not having posted in a few days we found ourselves part of a massive relief effort in Houston, TX. While we weren't in the state of Texas for the actual storm we were in Louisiana at the time, witness to flooded waters. Only twelve days ago it still leaves Galveston under water.

South of the Border

We made it south of the border!! Not that border, but south of North Carolina and the beginning of South Carolina. The summer season is over which led us finding a desolate and deserted tourist trap empty of all the souvenirs and things you couldn't find elsewhere but were never looking for to begin with. You wouldn't even think they just closed for the season but have been closed for years. With his contemptuously contrived english accent Pedro welcomed us with his friendly smile and infamous billboards hoping we return soon.

A Nonpartisan Message

Now we know we're a few days late with this (no tube on the road) and pretty sure everyone has seen it, but it's worth a post and another laugh to watch again!

(please excuse the peacock logo on top...... we couldn't find it in it's entirety elsewhere)

Eisenhower Interstate System

A little history lesson for ourselves since we've been living off of the Interstates as of late.......

"Persons travelling through the United States today may find it difficult to imagine our country without the Eisenhower Interstate Highway System. It was not until June 29, 1956, when President Eisenhower signed the Federal Aid Highway Act, that interstate highways began to meet the challenge of the growing number of automobiles on the nation’s highways. While in Europe during World War II, then General Eisenhower viewed the ease of travel on the German autobahns. That, coupled with the experiences of a young Lt. Col. Eisenhower in the 1919 Transcontinental Convoy convinced the President of the overwhelming need for safer and speedier highways. The President also felt that the newer, multi-lane highways were essential to a strong national defense."
